Dear National Directors,
The Polish American Congress has issued a statement expressing deep disappointment and indignation regarding the decision of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to name a Ukrainian military unit after the “Heroes of the UPA.”While reaffirming our unwavering support for the Ukrainian people in their struggle against Russian aggression, we believe that honoring organizations associated with the Volhynia Massacre and other atrocities committed against Polish civilians undermines the process of historical reconciliation and mutual understanding between Poles and Ukrainians.
We also express our support for the responses of President Karol Nawrocki, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who have spoken out on this matter.
Kongres Polonii Amerykańskiej opublikował stanowisko wyrażające głębokie rozczarowanie i zaniepokojenie decyzją Prezydenta Ukrainy Wołodymyra Zełenskiego o nadaniu ukraińskiej jednostce wojskowej imienia „Bohaterów UPA”.Podtrzymując nasze niezmienne wsparcie dla narodu ukraińskiego w jego walce z rosyjską agresją, uważamy, że honorowanie organizacji kojarzonych z Rzezią Wołyńską oraz innymi zbrodniami popełnionymi na polskiej ludności cywilnej utrudnia proces historycznego pojednania i budowania wzajemnego zrozumienia pomiędzy Polakami i Ukraińcami.
Wyrażamy również poparcie dla reakcji Prezydenta Karola Nawrockiego, Prezesa Rady Ministrów Donalda Tuska oraz Ministra Spraw Zagranicznych Radosława Sikorskiego, którzy zabrali głos w tej sprawie.
