Polish-Americans dedicate local memorial to WWII Airmen
September 21st ceremony honors Minneapolis native who died supporting the 1944 Warsaw Uprising 

(Minneapolis, MN, Sept. 5th, 2024) The Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota (PACIM) is proud to announce the dedication ceremony of a war memorial for Minneapolis native Sergeant Walter Shimshock and the heroic  B-17 Airlift Crew who sacrificed their lives in support of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. The ceremony will take place on September 21st, 2024, beginning at 12:45 PM  at  Huset Park, 530 Mill St NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421.  The U.S. Air Force will perform a flyover at 1:15 p.m. Among the distinguished guests are the Mayor of Warsaw, Poland, Mr. Rafał Trzaskowski, President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Poland, Mateusz  Szpytma, and other government representatives. Prior to the dedication, a  wreath laying ceremony will take place at Fort Snelling Cemetery at (9:00) at the grave of Sgt Shimshock. He will receive full military honors and both the Polish and American anthems will be sung. …
